Letters, manuscript, maps, pictures and news clippings. The bound volume titled "Reminiscences of the War" includes letters from Gen. Sherman, Gen. Logan, Gen. Force, Gen. Hickenlooper, Gen. Dodge, Gen. Belknap and Col. Church, maps of sites of battle, some drawn by A. Hickenlooper, newsclippings related to the war, illustrations and pictures of scenes from the war and pictures of some of the correspondents. The narrative includes, among many remembrances of battle and soldiers, a description of the death of Gen. McPherson by several witnesses including that of the Confederate officer who gave the command to shoot. Handwritten manuscripts of remembrances titled "The Battle of Vicksburg" and "Sherman's March to the Sea."

Sherman was born in 1820 in Lancaster, Ohio, near the banks of the Hocking River. His father, Charles Robert Sherman, a successful lawyer who sat on the Ohio Supreme Court, died unexpectedly in 1829. Civil war soldier who helped raise the 2nd Wisconsin Infantry in April 1861, was later assigned to duty with General William B. McPherson, and served at the Siege of Vicksburg, the Atlanta Campaign and Sherman's march to the sea, breveted Brigadier General in 1865. McPherson was born in Clyde, Ohio. He attended Norwalk Academy in Norwalk, Ohio, and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1853, first in his class, which included Philip H. Sheridan, John M.
